Grace Torrance URC is a confessional church. By this we mean that we subscribe or hold to the doctrines encapsulated in certain historic creeds and confessions of the faith. We believe that Christian doctrine has been wisely and soundly summarized in a number of proclamations or statements of faith dating back from the Reformation to the early church fathers. We hold that, while not Scripture themselves, and therefore not infallible, these creeds do nevertheless represent trustworthy and sound summaries of the essential Christian doctrines revealed in Scripture, and can be rightly used by the man of God for instruction and the training up of his family.
Grace Torrance URC (along with all the URC member churches) subscribes to the Three Forms of Unity and to the Ecumenical Creeds. The Three Forms of Unity consist of the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession, and the Canons of Dort. The Ecumenical Creeds consist of the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed.
